My Story: From Searching for Weight Loss… to Finding a Purpose
My name is Bongani Mthombeni, proudly South African, and this blog is more than just a website—it’s a journey, a transformation, and a mission that began on September 1st, 2016, the day I decided to go vegan.
What makes that day unforgettable is not just the decision itself, but the moment I was living in. People around me were playing with water, pouring buckets over each other, laughing, enjoying the moment. It looked fun. It looked exciting. But at the same time, I couldn’t stop thinking: this is nothing compared to what a vegan diet can save—water, animals, the planet, and even human lives.
That contrast stayed with me. It was like I had stepped into a different level of awareness.
How It All Started: Not Health… Not Ethics… But Business
Ironically, my vegan journey didn’t start with animals, health, or even climate change.
It started with a simple question:
“How can I make money online?”
I had discovered affiliate marketing and the idea of helping people while earning income. One of the biggest markets online? Weight loss. So I thought:
“Okay, let me promote weight loss diet books.”
I wrote my first book review post. I published it. I was excited.
But then something happened.
Someone commented and said they didn’t understand what I was talking about… and suggested I do more research.
At first, that might sound discouraging. But that comment changed my life.
The Turning Point: One Post That Changed Everything
I went back and started researching again. That’s when I found a post about vegan diets and weight loss.
It wasn’t just another diet article—it was detailed, powerful, and convincing. It connected the dots between food, health, and results in a way I had never seen before.
It felt like the person who wrote it knew exactly what they were talking about.
That led me deeper…
I went to Wikipedia.
I started reading about veganism—not just as a diet, but as a lifestyle backed by science, doctors, and global awareness.
I learned about:
- The health benefits of plant-based eating
- The role of diet in chronic diseases
- The environmental impact of animal agriculture
- The connection to global warming
Everything started to make sense.
And I remember thinking:
“This is it. This is the answer.”
The Decision: September 1st, 2016
That same year, after everything I had learned, I made a decision that would define my life:
I went vegan.
Not slowly. Not halfway. Fully committed.
From that day, everything changed:
- The way I eat
- The way I think
- The way I see the world
- The way I create
Before Veganism: The DJ Life & Creativity
Before going vegan, I was already a creative person.
I was a DJ, starting my journey around 2012 and continuing into the years after. I love music deeply—especially Afro house and electronic sounds. I can DJ on 4 decks, inspired by legends like DJ Kent.
Music taught me rhythm, discipline, and expression.
But that’s not all.
I’ve always been:
- Active (soccer, freestyle tricks, running)
- Creative (drawing, music, dancing)
- Curious (especially about maths and learning)
- Hands-on (fixing bicycles, understanding how things work)
I also have a deep appreciation for culture. I can play Ndebele/IsiNdebele traditional songs on piano or organ, something I’m truly proud of.
After Veganism: A New Mission
Going vegan didn’t take anything away from me—it added purpose.
It gave me:
- Clarity
- Direction
- A message worth sharing
I became not just a vegan—but a health enthusiast, a researcher, and eventually… an author.
My Books: From Learning to Teaching
What started as research turned into creation.
Today, I have written around 48 books, many focused on vegan health, weight loss, and disease prevention.
